Seeing wild animals in a natural setting is a unique experience.
I am a nature and wildlife photographer and I try to get to several places each year
to see, experience and photograph wild animals in a natural setting.

In January I took a week-long trip to the California Central Valley to visit several wildlife refuges. There are too many of these refuges to count in California and I only visited four: Gray Lodge Wildlife Area, a Department of Fish and Wildlife refuge; then onward to Llano Seco Unit which is part of the Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge Complex, then to Colusa National Wildlife Refuge, part of the same complex; then onward to Consumnes River Preserve, managed by the Bureau of Land Management, but it seems to be a partnership consisting of several public and private agencies.
The slide show below shows the various types of birds that can be found in any of these preserves, depending on the time someone visits. The window of opportunity is short for the most part, as determined by the migration pattern of birds using the Pacific Flyway. Featured in this slideshow are Cormorants, the Turkey Vulture, White-fronted Goose, Pintail, Egret, Shoveler, Eastern Fox Squirrel, American Bittern, Grebe, Hawks, Vermillion Flycatcher, and Black-crowned Night Heron. The wildlife abounds in the many wildlife refuges across the state of California.
In March of 2025 I head to Tanzania, Africa to photograph wildlife there and I hope to photograph big cats in other places as well during 2025.
